Balance and Vestibular Rehabilitation and Fall Prevention

Vestibular Disorders

The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, is one system involved in maintaining our equilibrium. Any dysfunction to this system, whether central or peripheral, can cause disequilibrium and associated symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, ringing in the ears, and vertigo. Common diagnoses that we treat include BPPV (Benign Positional Vertigo), Vertigo, and VOR (Vestibular Ocular Reflex) dysfunction.

Fall Prevention

  • 1 in 3 adults over the age of 65 falls each year
  • 46% of all falls result in a traumatic brain injury
  • Over 95% of hip fractures are caused by a fall

Our fall program is designed to identify individuals at risk for falls and provide preventative measures, including customized exercise programs and home modifications, to improve existing functional impairments and address safety issues in order to decrease the chance of a future fall.
