Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation is an area of practice that focuses on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with acute and chronic heart and lung disease. At RA Physical Therapy, we work in conjunction with board-certified pulmonologists (i.e. lung specialists) to help individuals with chronic respiratory disorders gain control over their breathing and improve their pulmonary function.

Pulmonary rehabilitation benefits individuals with conditions such as:

  • COPD
  • Emphysema
  • Post Lung Surgery
  • PPulmonary Hypertension
  • Asthma
  • Pneumonia

Treatment focuses on:

  • Education regarding energy conservation and activity pacing
  • Breathing mechanics
  • Aerobic training to increase functional endurance
  • Rib cage mobilization to enhance breathing efficiency

Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to help individuals recover from a heart attack or heart surgery, using education and training to increase physical fitness and promote healthy living through lifestyle modification to reduce the risk of future heart problems.

People who may benefit include those with the following diagnoses:

  • Heart Attack
  • CAD
  • Angina
  • Heart Failure
  • S/P CABG
  • S/P Angioplasty
  • S/P Valve Replacement
